Capt. James Knox SCV Camp #2022 trip to the 109th Annual National SCV Reunion in Dalton,GA --------------------Day ONE----------------- On 29 July 2004 we met at the Nahunta Library to go to Dalton,GA for the 109th SCV National Reunion (Sam Lyons, Tom Lavender, Eric Swilley, and Jerry Watkins were the members going as delegates) at 10am. We arrived in Dalton at around 3:30 and just missed getting our Credentials for the delegates but managed to sign in and get registered for the Reunion. We checked in at the Wingate Inn (were we all stayed for the Georgia Division Reunion last Month) The Order of the Confederate Rose was also Headquartered at the Wingate Inn. -------------------Day TWO------------------ The Next Day Friday the 30th of July we got up early and arrived at the Convention Center for the SCV Reunion and pick up our credentials first thing that morning. We met up with the Camden Rifles Camp and the Capt. Winston Stephens Camp # 2041 delegates and entered the Meeting Hall for the Business Meeting that morning. As usual the Grannies sat at the Back near the dissent Mike and were frequent visitors to voice their dissent against the Amendments discussed that day Dr. Evil and Mini Me and also Magilla Gorilla were among the Grannies who approached the Mic each time discussion was called for on an amendment and as usual they called for a Not so secret "Roll Call" vote on most every Amendment except for ONE the March 4th Confederate Flag Day proposal it passed on a Voice vote nearly unanimously. We broke for Lunch and after we got back Discussion was postponed till the next day so the Three Army's elected positions could be Nominated and Voted on. We broke up into three groups and proceeded to Open Nominations for Army of Tennessee. The results of the elections for the three Army positions are : Army of Tennessee Elected AOT Commander -T. Tarry Beasley, Jr Elected AOT Councilman -John French Army of Northern Virginia Elected ANV Commander - Henry Kidd Elected ANV Councilman - Randy Burbage Army of Trans-Mississippi Elected ATM Commander - Beau Cantrell (their choice) Elected ATM Councilman - Steve Lucas (their choice) After the elections we adjourned till Saturday to Continue Voting and doing Business. That evening we learned that Denne Sweeney Lt CIC was holding a reception at our Hotel in the Conference room sponsored by some of the OCR Ladies. There we all got to meet with some of the Other State Division Personnel and Members along with a special Guest Mr. H.K. Edgerton who was a most welcome surprise. -------------Day THREE------------- Saturday morning we arrived early and looked around the Vendor Hall and picked up a few Items. Some Items were marked down for sale at the reunion for a good price I for example picked up a Gray Military Vest for 10$ less than the regular price and saved additionally on zero shipping and Handling charges! So if you are looking for Southern Items and Uniforms the National Reunion has some good deals! This Day we also Took a Group Photo with H.K. Edgerton which we all admire for his support for the Southland! Today we had our battle plan ready and the Grannies didn't know what to expect. The Able Parliamentarian from the Virginia Division kept the Meeting rolling at a smooth pace and someone Made a motion to Limit Debate to 3 for and against and usually one of our side would get in line and as soon as possible call the question and then it was off to the next one. Also Nominations for National Offices were done in the Morning first thing and the result were: Commander in Chief - Denne Sweeney (our choice++) Lt. Commander in Chief - Anthony Hodges (their choice) After the Polls were closed the Amendments and Proposals were Voted on some of the results: Resolutions Passed on July 29, 2004 1. Resolution to thank the host camp/camps of the 2004 SAC Convention in Dalton, GA. 2. Resolution to condemn the decision of the City council of Fairfax, Virginia renaming the General Lee Highway. 3. Resolution expressing thanks to CIC Ron Wilson from the membership for his service to the SCV. 4. Resolution to condemn racial and political extremists. 5. Resolution to warn decent people to avoid association with Morris Dees and the SPLC. Members are advised not to communicate with the SPLC. This resolution demands that US Attorney General John Ashcroft and the Alabama State Attorney General investigate the SPLC and it's dealings. 6. Resolution that the CIC & GEC expel Walter C. Hilderman III from the SCV. 7. Resolution to proclaim SCV members as Confederate Southern Americans and the Confederate Flag as a Christian and ancestral symbol. 8. Resolution directing the GEC to donate $20,000 to the SLRC to help continue fighting the heritage battles. Resolutions that did not Pass on July 29, 2004 1. Resolution to direct the CIC and GEC to set the national convention registration fee at no more than $40.00 and to set the late fee at no more than $20.00. 2. Resolution to dissolve the relationship between the SCV and the MOS&B Awards Troy Massey : Jefferson Davis Award Sonny Carwile : Robert E. Lee Award Michael D. Kendrick : Edward L. Darling Award, Top Recruiter 2003-2004, 71 new members recruited Thanks to the VA Division Website for the info http://www.vascv.org/2004%20Convention%20Results.html we then voted to Adjourn the Meeting and this concluded the 109th Annual Reunion of the SCV After the Meeting we drove up to Dug Gap for some Site seeing. Later that Night was the Victory Party for the New CIC Denne Sweeney again in the Conference room of the Wingate Inn ,we didn't have far to walk LOL. The Members and their Wives who had earlier attended the SCV Ball arrived to the Party wearing their Confederate Best! it looked like a Pentagon General Staff Meeting from 140 years ago !All in attendance had a great time talking and associating with like minded southerns. -----------Day FOUR------------------ The morning of the 1st of August we checked out of the Hotel and then headed over to Resaca,GA. To the Battlefield/ Confederate Cemetery for a Sunday Prayer Service for the Hero's buried there. Afterwards we were soon on our way home to Jesup, Nahunta, and Brunswick, Georgia |
