Adjutants Report for Dec.2004 By Jerry Watkins:
Well, a lot has happend since last month . We had elections and I was elected Adjutant. We are now meeting at the Hortense Community Center or next meeting is the 15th of Dec. I think our new meeting schedule will be the 3rd Weds of the Month after this meeting on the 15th if it is OK'd by the members.
On the 4th of Dec. we participated in the Nahunta Christmas Festival/Parade. Our thanks go out to Linton Herrin for setting up two tables for the Camp and donating a half dozen bottles of Good Cane sugar "Country Syrup" for the Camp to sale. Also to Huey Ham for reserveing the spaces for all three heritage groups in Brantley Co. We also want to express our thanks to our newly elected Commander Tom Lavender for Bringing Mathew and working the booth that morning before they both went to a Grave Dedication.Matthew filled cartriges with powder while passerbys watched him presenting himself as a Confederate Soldier. David Royster stopped by after he got off from work and visited with me and Stephanie working the Booth. This year the cost of a space jumped to 30$ so the booth didn't make as much as we would have last year. We managed to make the Booth bill and deposited 28$ in the Camp Checking Acct. We also handed out an application to a potential member and handed out several dozen battle flags to the youngins'. The Dixie Outfitter Bumper Stickers were a suprise hit at the festival it was the most I had seen sold at one date and Stephanie teased me for not wanting to set them out because I said it was too windy.
Huey Ham and my Wife Stephanie have been busy along with Andy Middleton working on the Waynesville Confederate Soldiers Park Library building and also they Built a two seater Outhouse / Storage Shed that will be raffled off at the April dedication of the Library building.Tickets are available from Huey Ham and Stephanie Watkins the tickets cost 3$ for one chance and 5$ for two tickets. The building is made of Treated wood and local Cyprus, the roof is metal. We all are on the recruiting commitee and if you know someone that used to be a member and hasn't renewed their dues please invite them back to the Camp they are missed at the meetings. As the man said "Changes are a coming" good or bad they need all of our participation to make this camp a Family.
Tonite I had an Idea for the Lee/Jackson Banquet what do you all think of a Pot luck Dinner at the Hortense Community Center around the middle of January?? it would not cost too much, the room is nice, spacious, heated, and close to everyone. It would be a little short notice But we would need a Guest Speaker. One person that comes to Mind would be Miss B Roberson she seems to me a good speaker, another person is the Retired Submariner that lives in Waynesville I can't remember his name but I have talked to him a couple of times at the Exchange Club Meetin' and he would be a good Speaker also. There is always a local Preacher of someones church and we know how much Preachers enjoy a meal and a chance to speak to a group. Just some Ideas for everyone to think about.
In closeing remember Leroy the redneck reindeer led Santa's Sled last Christmas and Jolly old St.Nick wrapped his Sack with a Dixie Flag and wished all the Children of the South A Merry Christmas and a Better New Year.
God Bless the South and Robert E.Lee -Amen-
the way the infields at all the race tracks in the South used to look like before Nascar joined ole' Jessie Jackson (Thanks to GP Racing for the Picture from Last seasons Darlington Southern 500 November 14, 2004 http://www.gp.com/racing/photoshow.html?pid=483 )
