Commanders Column

Compatriots I would like to start off this months report by saying "Congratulations" on the recruiting, we are at 56 members. Great achievement for any Camp but lets keep up the good work and keep recruiting. Remember it is the duty of each one of us to recruit others into the Camp. Remember your dad, brother, cousins, friends, co-workers or just the guy wearing the Southern Heritage t-shirt, they are all great prospects for recruitment.
July has seen quite a few members sworn-in and special achievement and recognition awards given out. Special recognition and appreciation was bestowed upon Compatriot Larry Mercer for his attendance at various flaggings in West Georgia and for his dedication to Camp activities. Larry lives in Valdosta and drives 100 miles one way to attend a Camp meeting and hasn't missed one yet, I wish some who live only a few miles away could be half as dedicated. Adjutant and Chaplain Tom Lavender has been recognised for his devotion to the Camp and his tireless work at the Confederate Soldiers Park. Great job Tom. There are several new members to add during this last month. This list includes:
Robert Andrews, Brunswick
Thomas Farmer, Waynesville
Larry Hulvey, Jesup
David H. Tyre, Jesup
Randall Lartz, Hortense
Brian Woolard, St. Marys
David Knox, Brunswick

Welcome to the new members and thanks for choosing our Camp as your own.

We have just held our first 7th Brigade meeting with the new officers and I will report on that elsewhere in this newsletter. There were some great ideas hatched at the meeting and I humbly add that I was official appointed the new 7th Brigade Lt. Commander. I feel that as Lt. Commander I can lead this Camp in to a more major roll not only in this Brigade but also in the Division. I look forward to the future and what it holds for our humble "Seaboard Guards".
At the end of the month our delegates will be going to Dalton for the SCV National Reunion and it is sure to be a great experience as this is the year we hope to pass our reform amendments and carry the SCV more into the heritage fight and on the offensive instead of defensive. We will report on the event in next months newsletter but until then good luck to all and God-speed in all your endeavors. DEO VINDICE!

                              Confederately,
                         Sam Lyons, Commander
