Compatriots,
The 7th Brigade held it's first meeting on July 12th at the Shoney's in Waycross. There were 12 representatives attending from 4 of the Brigade's 7 Camps. The meeting commenced at 6:30 pm with the 7th Brigade Commander James Gaskins in charge. Their were several good reports of progress from a couple of the Camps and an update on Camp projects. Also discussed were ideas for a Brigade wide Lee-Jackson Celebration in January which would include all 7 Camps. A Brigade Christmas party was another good idea as was a February Gen. John B. Gordon BBQ hosted by our own Capt. James Knox Camp.
Announcements were made of individual Camp's upcoming activities including a Camden Rifles event on the 2nd Saturday in August which we will further report on in next months newsletter as we get more info. Our Capt. James Knox Camp reported that we will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual Confederate Heritage Celebration in Jesup on Saturday November 6th at the Westberry Park. We had nearly 200 in attendance last year and hope to double that this year. The Brigade is also planning a weekend event in September at the Confederate Farms in Waycross and that will be announced after the August Brigade meeting where plans will be finalized. This event will include re-enactors and wanna-be's and also Artillery and maybe Cavalry.
There was a Heritage Defense issue discussed in which Lanier County Schools had banned Confederate flag t-shirts last year but the School Board is expected to table the discussion indefinitely. We also discussed plans to incorporate and develop an education packet to be used by all Camps for using in the schools and at public forums and speaking engagements. Those who already have experience in Southern History and Heritage Education are asked to submit a packet to me and we will revue them and incorporate what we can into the package. State QCC will be met and we shall further the cause of Southern and Confederate Heritage where ever we go.
The next 7th Brigade meeting will be held at the Shoney's on U.S. Highway 1 S. in Waycross on Monday August 9th at 6:30 pm. DEO VINDICE!
Confederately,
Sam Lyons, Commander #2022
7th Brigade Lt. Commander
