I guess you are still alive since I haven't seen an obituary with your name on it, but since I don't read the liberal papers much I could have overlooked it, if so please consider this a letter of condolence. In the case that you are mad, sad or just plain pissed off with me then please accept my apology for what ever indiscretion I have committed.
Sometimes I believe it is best for a person to just back off from what ever is causing stress in their life and then regroup and go at it a different way. I have done that lately and I have discovered another way to view my family, job and the SCV (which are the 3 most important things in my life). The family and work situations are personal my involvement with this Camp and the SCV involve others so I will share this with those who care. I am back on my feet now and I believe in this Camp and our Cause 110%. If you are a part of this Camp and can not, or will not, work to fulfill the Charge given to us and all Confederate descendants then you are welcome to step aside and let those who are proud of our heritage get to work getting this Camp back on line. You members elected me as your Commander and I WILL do my best at that job but I do expect others to pull their weight, if not then there are other Camps who do nothing that would love to have another hand setter. If you truly love your ancestry and intend to stand up and celebrate it then get up and lets go. Take part in Camp activities. NASCAR can spare you for a day and so can ESPN and I'm sure your easy chair can use the break. This Camp needs you and your ancestors need you to get off your can and get out and do something in their memory. Dues are already due for all those who came in before June 1st and the amount is $12 to Ga. Div. and $25 to IHQ and if your heart ain't in the fight then just don't pay and you won't have to a part of this Camp anymore. There is always something that can be done and nobody is going to do it for us but us. We need volunteers to do some yard work at the flag pole on 82, we need the grass mowed in the Confederate Cemetery, we need planners for the Camp Watkins Project (if Steph and Jerry want to do that anymore). We need every member to do something for the cause in honor of your Confederate ancestors. Give them another hour, or a few, or a day to live again through you. Fellows lets get busy getting back on track. Please submit some ideas or things you'd like to do or see us do. We nned the committees to get active. Have you done anything for the Camp? Have you even attended a meeting in a awhile? We need folks to get together to set up speaking events and get folks to come and speak to us. We need someone to organize things for us. We need someone to volunteer to provide refreshments at meetings. We need volunteers and we need action? Fellows we currently have 61 members but if only 25 decide to renew and stay in I hope thay are 25 whose hearts are in the right place and who really care about their heritage and this Camp. The Camp meetings are much better organized now and don't run nearly as long and much more is accomplished. I hope most of you are big enough to put aside whatever it is that has kept you away from the Camp and you will step up and take part and make this your Camp. Get involved. It is the memory of your ancestor that you joined to honor and celebrate and please be a big enough person to step up to the plate for him. If you have a problem with me please call me at 267-9063 or 270-6087. I'm a big boy and I can take what ever you have to say to me if you are big enough to call me and lets discuss the problem and get past it. This is about more than clashing personalities or hurt feelings, this is about the honor and memory of a group of our ancestors who were by far much better people than any of us could ever hope to be. This kind of organization is the only real outlet to honor them and their sacrifices and this Camp has always been a leader in doing just that. We all need to put this Camp back on top. Fellows if the problem is me then I'll step down but for the sake of our ancestors don't turn your back on this Camp. There is much we can do and much we can accomplish together. Please consider all that I have said. Do know that you can contact me at any time by e-mail or phone. Many who used to call or e-mail me everyday have just dried up and disappeared and I hope they will pick up from here and get back on track for the sake of the Camp. No matter what you do or what becomes of you as a member I wish each and every one of you the best of luck and DEO VINDICE!
Confederately,
Sam
